- Meeting the Challenge
-
How can you ensure that people keep their pledge to not use tobacco?
Potential winners will have their tobacco-free status verified biochemically (urine sample) and confirmed by a witness. Potential winners will also need to sign a written declaration attesting to their respect for the conditions set out in the official rules in order to become winners.
How will you verify that winners have remained tobacco-free during the Challenge period?
A simple urine test for tobacco byproducts will be performed by the University of Minnesota to determine if the participant has remained tobacco-free.
What happens if I have a relapse?
Quitting smoking is a difficult process and relapses do happen. If you relapse during the Sweepstakes, you will not be eligible for the prizes should your name be drawn. But you will have made an excellent first step to improve your health. For free information on the quitting process, www.quitplan.com.
What happens if a person whose name is drawn fails the test?
If an individual fails the urine test, they will be ineligible for the prize and a new name will be chosen.
If I am around people who smoke, would I fail the test because of the secondhand smoke?
Secondhand smoke is revealed in urine at very low levels. Therefore, the test results will clearly reveal if an individual was exposed to secondhand smoke versus having smoked a cigarette. Secondhand smoke exposure will not affect confirmation of smoke-free status.
Can I use nicotine gum, nicotine patches or nicotine lozenges during the Challenge?
Yes, using a smoking cessation aid can greatly help some people quit. If you choose to use the patch, gum, inhaler or lozenge, it may show up in the biochemical test; however, the test will indicate if someone has been smoking versus using a nicotine replacement therapy product. We encourage people to use the aids they need to help them quit. Talking with your health care professional can help you find the best option for you.
- Tobacco-Free Friend
-
Tobacco-free friends must be Minnesota residents, nonsmokers and at least 18 years of age. They may be asked to verify their tobacco-free status.
Am I obliged to have a Tobacco-Tree Friend for The QuitCash Challenge™?
No, having a tobacco-free friend is not a requirement of The QuitCash Challenge. However, since having support from a friend has been proven to help people successfully quit, we encourage you to enroll a tobacco-free friend.
Can friends support more than one smoker?
Tobacco-free friends are welcome to support more than one smoker. As a result, a tobacco-free friend can be eligible for multiple tobacco-free friend prizes.
